WES (Westside Express Service) Preview Ride

How cool!  I received an invitation (thanks TriMet!) to RSVP for a WES Preview Ride.  So it looks like I’ll be riding the WES later this week.  I’ll try to get some pictures (or even some video?) and a nice comprehensive post on how the experience went probably this coming weekend.

Anyone have any specifics they want me to pay attention to?

Can you see if the WiFi really works?

  2. Christian says:

Yep, I plan on bringing my macbook. I will test out the Wifi and let you know..

Oh, now I’m the envious one – my ride isn’t until the 28th! :)

    I’m going this Friday, supposedly.
That’s what the guy on the other end of the phone said.
    Where are the tickets?

  5. Adron says:

That’s what I want to know too, they said RSVP, but how do we go about tickets. Last thing I want to do is ride in “crush capacity”.

I intend to haul along the ole trusty Dell myself. So UI suspect several will be testing the wifi. :)

We might even need to do some “live blogging”.

    LIVE BLOGGING!
    TRANSIT BEER!
    (are they serving beer?)

  7. Christian says:

    I’m thinking they’ll just have a list? I’m guessing?

  8. al m says:

I thought the guy said to me that he would send some sort of e-ticket via e-mail.

    However, none has arrived!

Last Wednesday I took a trip from home on the eastside of Portland to Salem via WES. I had to start before six a.m. to be sure of making connections. The bus rom Wilsonville to Salem cost an additional $2.50.

I had a good time, but I have some advice for anyone wanting to try this. This route only works during commuter hours, so you will have to be in Salem at least 6 hours. The rider should either wear a catheter or have steel kidneys as there are no restrooms easily available on the route. In Salem, downtown and the riverfront, Bush Park, Mission Mill and Marion county are all less than a mile away. Willamette University has an art museum, and of course one may easily visit the Capitol. First return trip from Salem to Wilsonville is at about 4:00 p.m. The visitors desk at the Capitol had plenty of walking-tour maps and other info available.
I saw the community-built merry-go-round in the river park, and watched an old Georgia Pacific building being demolished. The mall in the historic Reed Opera house was also fun. Summary: cheep thrills and a ride on the hooterville express (my fond nickname for WES.)
