If you’re planning on taking the MAX in early August, this news is for you:
There’s going to be a MAX service interruption from August 2 to the 24 on the Steel Bridge. This effects all MAX lines: blue, red & yellow. During this time, riders will be shuttled from the Rose Quarter Transit Center to the Old Town / Chinatown Station. The construction taking place is to connect lines & tracks to the MAX Green Line.
More information can be read here.
Plan on allowing 10 or so more minutes in your trip if you plan on taking the MAX through these stops.
How cool is this – you can watch a webcam that shows the Steel Bridge & the site for the future construction of connecting the MAX green line. It’s a typical three / five second refresh webcam image. Right now, all you’ll be seeing is our delightful early Summer Portland weather & MAX trains whizzing on by… later during the summer, you’ll be able to watch construction crews connecting the MAX green line to the existing MAX system.
And I’m serious – I’m digging this mid-60s cloudy weather. You can’t have sun, sun, sun in the beginning of the summer… because by the end, you’re all bored by it.
Just like last weekend, MAX service will be down once again on April 26 & 27 between the Gatway transit center and the 102nd station. TriMet is working around the clock this weekend to connect the new MAX green line with the existing tracks. Red line service will not be affected.
If you’re riding this weekend and plan on going through these stops, buses will be providing shuttle service. So plan on a couple of extra minutes for your trip.
TriMet has a computer-generated video of how the MAX Green Line will look when completed in 2009. As someone who rides by this construction everyday (you can get a peek at how it’s going between the Gateway Transit Center and 102nd), it looks like things are really coming along quite nicely.
Why not have a little music being played during the video? I wouldn’t even mind a little “Never Going to Give You Up” being played (note: if you click that link, you will be rickrolled…).
